The next generation in Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) has arrived from Beru F1. The DigiTyre Lite system has been developed straight from Beru's involvement in top level motorsport like F1, MotoGP and NASCAR.
Overview
DigiTyre Lite is ideally suited to single series formulae, the national series competitor or serious clubman who are looking for the safety and performance benefits from Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems normally only available in top level motorsport.
Using experience gathered from the highest echelons of motorsport, bf1systems have developed a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System which provides high accuracy and performance at new levels of value.
DigiTyre Lite offers numerous advantages, including:
- Preventing potential accidents by identifying tyre pressure loss
- Allowing a driver to clearly see when their tyres are up to pressure and temperature
- Maximising vehicle handling with a limited test schedule
DigiTyre Lite’s compact wheel electronics transmit RF datagrams every 3 seconds back to the antennae mounted on the car. The antennae communicate with the ECU, which transmits information on a high speed CAN bus back to the car’s data logger, and to the optional Digital Display to allow the driver to clearly see their tyre pressures and temperatures.
The DigiTyre Lite kit comprises the following components:
DigiTyre Lite ECU x 1 main features:
- Plastic housing Splash proof case (IP50 rating)
- OEM grade connector
- ECU configuration over RS232 connection
- Serial data stream available over HS CAN (baud rate configurable)
- Maximum operating temperature 80°C
DigiTyre Lite Antenna x 4 (closed wheel car), x 2 (open wheel car) Antenna main features:
- Robust plastic housing
- Waterproof and dustproof housing (IP65 rating)
- Motorsport Size 6 connector
- Suitable for mounting in protected locations
DigiTyre Ultra Lite Wheel Sensor x 4 Wheel Sensor main features:
- Compact, robust housing
- bf1systems standard temperature battery (capable of continuous operation up to 100°C)
- Temperature measurement range –40°C – 120°C
- 0.33Hz data transmission (Datagrams transmitted every 3 seconds)
- 25mbar/bit pressure resolution. Maximum measurable tyre pressure is 5.375bar
Digital Display x 1 main features:
- Large, clear, easy to read display
- LEDs in each corner which change colour to provide warnings about the tyres
- Displays information including tyre pressures, temperatures, compensated pressures, sensor remaining battery life and ECU diagnostics
DigiTyre Lite is also supported by hand held tools to allow pit crews to interrogate wheel sensors on demand and gather information about tyres in the pits waiting to be fitted to a vehicle, or tyres on a stationary vehicle.
The Mini Trigger allows convenient handheld testing of the TPMS wheel sensors by transmitting a low frequency modulated signal which triggers the wheel sensor under test, and forces it to transmit a datagram. The Mini Analyser provides a powerful way of testing TPMS wheel sensors. It combines both RF and LF circuitry, meaning it can receive the RF datagrams transmitted by the wheel sensors, displaying all the received data in an easy to read format on the screen, as well as transmitting the LF codes to interrogate the wheel sensors. The screen displays the pressure, temperature, serial number and other data channels, enabling information to be read from the tyres quickly and easily.
No matter what series you compete in, everyone is looking for an unfair advantage. From our experience at the top level of motorsport we know obtaining high quality data is critical for success, and this trend is filtering through all levels of motorsport. Restricted track time and testing means knowing what is happening in that contact patch between track and chassis is crucial for going quicker, safely.
